Selective feeders are most useful when one animal steals another's food, needs a prescription diet, eats a measured amount or grazes while a housemate does not. Those are access problems. A timed automatic feeder solves a different problem: delivering food on a schedule.

Some products guard a bowl that you fill. Others dispense dry food and then restrict the bowl. Decide whether you need protected access, scheduled portions or both before comparing features.
